Welcome to Normal
Service...Welcome to
`Normal Service' - we try to update this page regularly (especially the
`forthcoming gigs' section), so remember to bookmark us & come back
soon!
Who are
Normal?Normal are a band
based in St. Albans in the UK. We've been together around 4 years, and
play original, guitar based pop-rock, with dead catchy tunes that even
your granny would like - check out the audio section
below.
Bands we've played with
include: The Supernaturals, The Specials, Montrose Avenue, The Young
Offenders, Libido, The Dandies, The L.A. Doors & Spy 51.
Normal's line-up
is:
- Steve (`ladies &
gentlemen') Simmons - Guitars, Lead Vocals & Songs.
- Sean ('ee-boy') Watkins -
Bass, Backing Vocals, & Songs.
- Bill Johnson - Guitars,
Backing Vocals, & Songs.
- James (`the frames') Walker -
Drums & Backing Vocals.
Former members include Paul Bailey
(recently spotted on Top of the Pops with Martine McCutcheon!) & Daren
Callow - we thanks them for their contributions & wish them well in
their current musical ventures!
Steve, Bill & James also gig in a covers band
called `The Fakers', we've included Fakers gig's in the gig dates below...
News
- Normal are playing what will likely be their last gig before Steve moves down to Dorset!!!
We're playing next Thursday January 30th, supporting Crowded House tribute band `Crowdies House' at
the Horn Reborn, St. Albans (just a very short walk from St. Albans station).
Admission £5 - should be a top night. Details, directions etc. at: Lemonrock.
We'll be playing a few new tunes, and some old favourites (well, we like 'em!) too.
- In a situation similar to the recent discovery of stolen Beatles tapes, some vintage Normal sessions have
also been recently unearthed and are currently being mixed down. Watch this space for details of a new Normal
CD featuring this and other recent tunes!
- Normal in New Material + Gigs Shocker! In a development almost as surprising
to the band as to you out there, we can announce we'll be playing some new tunes at the
Rose and Crown, St Albans next Monday (December 16th). We may also be playing
at the Horn Reborn early next year - we'll post details once confirmed!
- James is now playing with Bracknell-based band Ellahi Groove.
- An MP3 of one of Steve's latest tunes, Lost in space, is now available from the
Audio section.
- Well, we've been somewhat remiss
in keeping this site up-to-date, although it's been a bit of a quiet time for us musically.
We've been doing some recording, the odd floor-spot at the Rose & Crown on a Monday evening,
& have been occasionally spotted under our alter-ego of `Kelvin Horse and the Custard Teeth'.
We've also been doing some covers gigs as the Fakers...(a 75% Normal experience!). Last but
not certainly not least, Sean has become a dad!
- We have a page on lemonrock - a St. Albans
Bands & music site - check it out! :-)
Audio
- Lost in space
(4376 KB). A new track by Steve.
- Slip
of a man (3050 KB). A song often introduced as being about `not
quite being the full ticket'.
- If
you could see you (3639 KB). Written by Bill, & originally
done by his former band `The Fab Clocks', here's our version!
